Flaxseed Oil Benefits
Flaxseed oil
Our Flaxseed Oil range of products contain human food grade, cold pressed flaxseed oil. It is UK grown and harvested at DEFRA approved/Red Tractor Assured farms. It is 100% traceable and pesticide/chemical free.
What is flaxseed oil?
Flaxseed oil is pressed out of the flax seed itself. There are different methods of extraction, the most effective is ‘cold pressing’ as this method helps to retain the freshness of the oil; cold pressing involves little or no heating and so keeps the oil in its most natural and fresh state.
Flaxseed oil is polyunsaturated and classed as a ‘good fat’. It is a rich, natural and balanced source of omega 3 & 6 essential fatty acids (EFA’s). EFA’s are beneficial for the body to perform key biological functions. Animals (humans and dogs) are unable to produce EFA’s themselves so it is essential (hence the name essential fatty acids!) to add these types of fats to the diet to maintain overall good health of the heart, digestive & reproductive system, to keep skin, nails and hair (fur) healthy, to aid mobility & circulation and help to balance metabolism and reduce inflammation.
Flaxseed oil consists of ‘short chain’ EFA’s; ALA (Alpha Linolenic Acid - Omega 3) and LA (Linoleic Acid - Omega 6). These types of EFA’s are different to fish oils which consist of ‘long chain’ EFA’s and contain readily available sources of EPA and DHA. Both Omega 3 & 6 in the form of ALA and LA are necessary for dogs to maintain good health, indeed research now shows that LA is a very important fatty acid chain for dogs. The correct balance of ALA and LA is also important as are vitamin B6, B7, copper, calcium, magnesium, zinc and iron as these vitamins and minerals help with effective absorption of flaxseed oil. Therefore, a varied healthy, fresh diet is advocated in order to get the very best out of flaxseed oil.
As a guide, a ratio of 4 parts Omega 3 to 1 part Omega 6 is the recommended ratio for effective absorption and optimal health benefits. Our flaxseed oil has 60% Omega 3 and 16% Omega 6 so is almost a perfect ratio.
When oils are added to dried dog food in the manufacturing process they become oxidised due to being heated and thus provide no real nutritional value. Oils that are added to home cooked foods have the same fate as do any manufactured complete foods that are prepared and then frozen as they lose their EFA’s through the thawing process because they have been subject to light and air. Oils such as flaxseed oil need to be eaten in their fresh state to get the best out of them.
It has also been found that flaxseed oil on its own can oxidise and go rancid, but at Proflax this isn't a concern as our proprietary herbal blends mean that the combination of flaxseed oil and herbs provide you with a range of oils that will stay fresh for longer. We validate this with regular testing at a UK independent DEFRA approved laboratory
Flaxseed oil contains little or no lignans which are present in the flaxseed itself. Lignans contain phytoestrogens which are hormones and although flaxseed oil contains very few of these hormones, it is not recommended that pregnant or nursing dogs take any flaxseed oil supplement.
A bit more information on the importance of EFA's
EFAs are fat carried nutrients that every mammal needs to maintain healthy function and structure of smooth muscle organs (heart, reproductive system), for healthy liver cells and to maintain healthy skin, coat and build strong joint tissues. They have also been linked to retinal development and are responsible for the synthesis of prostaglandins - chemicals that serve as mediators of various psychological processes in the body. Prostaglandins act upon smooth muscle contractions of the heart and digestive tract, the initiation and regulation of inflammatory responses and inhibit excessive clotting of the blood.
An EFA enriched diet will support a shinier, softer coat, less shedding, healthier skin and fewer fleas. With this in mind, it is easier to understand that EFA’s should be regarded as a necessity in any animals diet.

from 998 reviewsEsme has had some tummy issues and while its mainly been tackled we still had the odd issue. So I decided she should have a cleanse and opted to try liver love. She has only been taking it for a week and the for a couple of days her 2nd poohs of the day were a bit yuk but I put that down to the oil getting rid of anything nasty in her system. Since then we haven't had any issues. My plan is to give her the oil for a couple of months and hopefully that will sort her out. She is happy to have it on her food and has even licked it out of her bowl one morning when I forgot to pop it on her food.
Great product my girl loves the taste & I’m sure it has helped her during her season
I’m very pleased that Keep Off Me really works as I’ve wanted to find a tick repellent for my dog that doesn’t have any chemicals.
My dog loves the Proflax Kidney Care and its peace of mind for me too as I can use it over any food especially when she doesn't want her Renal food, I know she's still getting the help she needs. Would highly recommend this product and have recommended other Proflax products to my family for their dogs too.
Im convinced this helps my boy stay active and young at heart . He has just turned 9
So far so good. Seems to relax puppy and he likes the taste.
If I could rate this a 6* I would, my 15yr old staffie was struggling to walk ,looked sad with arthritic pain.. 3 days into taking Proflax Bone & Joint, she's strutting her stuff again!!! Happy to say I've a happy ,more flexible staffie again. THANKS TEAM PROFLAX
All I can say it's Brilliant organic supplement for my dogs joints
Jacob, my 8 year old French Bulldog has been having joint issues and has needed antiinflammatory medication to manage this. It was effective, but after seeing the Proflax Bone and Joint I thought I would try a more natural product to keep him comfortable. Within a few days Jacob had the spring back in his step and looked brighter in himself. I have been able to adjust the dose to maintain his comfort levels. I am so pleased to have found this product to improve Jacob's quality of life.
After six days of using the supplement my wonderful old springer spaniel has more energy and her very loose stools have firmed up significantly after nothing else I tried seemed to help.
I am giving Omega bounce to both my dogs. This is to support their bones, joints, ligaments, kidneys and liver. My older dog has joint problems so this is exactly what he needs. I know my dogs are getting the best supplement and 100% natural.
Since recently moving to Somerset, our dog has had 4 ticks from February to April. We never had problems with any of our previous dogs, where we lived before. I started using the treatment and no ticks or fleas since! We go on the same routes but he remains clear. He’s on a raw diet and has no objection to the tincture mixed with his food. Fabulous! 👍
He has Proflax heart oil (we always have Boxers, who are prone) in the morning and Get Off Me at his evening meal. Both are excellent products.
My old dog doesn't like the mushroom when I add to his food so I have not been able to use it at all. However, I'm sure it would benefit him if he'd eat it! It could be an old age thing.
I haven't taken stars off because that wouldn't be fair if it's my dog's fussiness is the problem!!
I have been using this bundle for five days.
Every thing is going well I’m very impressed so far
