Feeding FAQs
Can Proflax Be Taken Alongside Prescribed Medication?
Can I feed Proflax alongside prescribed medication? The short answer is — it might be possible, but we always recommend checking with your vet first.
Some herbs in our formulas can affect how medications are absorbed. In some
cases, it’s as simple as giving Proflax at a different time of day – which is the approach we usually suggest.
But it’s important to be cautious. Certain medications can affect things like blood pressure, the central nervous system, or internal organs – and your vet will know whether a particular supplement is suitable alongside them.
Veterinary professionals are best placed to understand any contra-indications
to the medications they prescribe, so we always advise discussing your chosen
Proflax formula with them before starting.
Take extra care if your pet is on blood thinners or modulators, and please note:
Proflax powders are not recommended for pregnant or nursing animals.
Can I feed more than one Proflax supplement to my pet?
You absolutely can feed more one Proflax supplement to your pet at the same time, following a few simple guidelines.
Powder + Oil:
If you're feeding both a Proflax powder and an oil, and the herbs in each are different, you can give both on the same day – just split them between different meals and feed each at the full daily amount.
For general wellbeing, you can alternate products – give a powder one day, and an oil the next.
Oil + Oil:
Want to use two oils instead? You’ve got two options:
- Feed half the daily amount of each oil on the same day – either in the same meal or split across two
- Or, alternate daily – one oil one day, the second oil the next
Powder + Powder:
If you're feeding two Proflax powders, and the herbs in each are different, you can give both on the same day.
When should I NOT feed Proflax?
Some of our formulas aren't recommended if your pet is taking certain medication. Caution should be taken if your pet is taking blood thinners or modulators, or is pregnant or nursing.
If you are at all concerned about giving Proflax then please ask your own vet for advice, giving them the full list of the herbal ingredients from your chosen formula.
If your pet is taking another herbal based supplement that contains the same ingredients as your chosen Proflax formula, we do not suggest feeding them on the same day. If you are feeding herbs that differ to your chosen Proflax formula then we suggest feeding them at a different time of day, i.e. in your pets second meal of the day. If your other chosen supplements are not herbal they should be completely safe to be fed together. However, if you are unsure then please give us a call or ask your own vet for advice.
Please refer to the 'Suitability' section on individual product pages for product-specific advice.
Can I feed Proflax even if my pet doesn't have a condition?
Absolutely! We advocate a preventative approach to healthcare for your pet. Feed a product according to your pet's breed, lifestyle and life stage.
My pet is fussy - will they like Proflax?
98% of pets do! Flaxseed oil has a nutty flavour and one of the herbs that we include - liquorice - has a very sweet taste so this combination offers great palatability.
When to Take a Break
If you’re feeding a single Proflax product regularly over several months, we recommend occasionally taking a short ‘break period’. A 7-day break every few months gives your pet's system a gentle reset. During this time, you can switch to one of our gentle all-rounders to keep that daily support going. If you're rotating between products or feeding more than one Proflax supplement, you don’t need a break at all.
